Moringa Powder & Capsules: Manufacturing

Below is a simple, safe, and practical method to prepare Moringa (Drumstick leaves) powder and Moringa capsules—written in easy language so you can follow it as a chemist.
(This is a general processing guide, not a substitute for your company’s SOPs or regulatory requirements.)

⭐ 1. MORINGA POWDER PREPARATION (Easy Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Raw Material Selection

  • Fresh, green Moringa leaves (no yellow leaves)
  • Remove insects, sticks, dust

Step 2: Washing

  • Wash leaves gently in clean water
  • Do 2 washes
  • Let extra water drain completely in a perforated basket

Step 3: Blanching (Optional but recommended)

This reduces microbial load and preserves color.

  • Dip leaves in hot water (60–70°C) for 30–60 seconds
  • Quickly remove and cool at room temperature
  • Spread to remove moisture

Step 4: Drying

You can use any one method:

A. Sun Drying

  • Spread leaves on a clean tray
  • Keep in shade (not direct harsh sun)
  • Dry for 6–8 hours/day for 2–3 days
  • Leaves must become crisp

B. Cabinet / Tray Dryer (Better quality)

  • Set temperature: 50–55°C
  • Dry until moisture becomes < 10% (crispy dry leaves)

Step 5: Grinding

  • Use a grinder/pulverizer
  • Grind to a fine powder
  • Sieve through 60–80 mesh for uniformity

Step 6: Quality Checks (Basic)

  • Moisture: Ideally 5–10%
  • Color: Green (not brown)
  • Smell: Fresh moringa smell
  • No lumps, no contamination

Step 7: Storage

  • Pack in airtight, food-grade pouches or containers
  • Protect from heat, moisture, and light

⭐ 2. HOW TO PREPARE MORINGA CAPSULES

Materials Needed

  • Moringa leaf powder (prepared above)
  • Empty capsules (Size 0 or 00)
  • Capsule filling machine (manual or semi-auto)
  • SS tray, spatula, weighing scale

Step-by-Step Process

Step 1: Sieve the powder again

  • Use a fine mesh
  • This ensures smooth flow while filling

Step 2: Capsule Filling

  • Load empty capsules into the filling machine
  • Spread powder using a card/spatula
  • Let machine tamp it down
  • Fill again until capsules reach proper weight

Typical capsule weights:

  • Size 0: ~400–500 mg moringa powder
  • Size 00: ~600–750 mg moringa powder
(Your company may decide exact mg.)

Step 3: Locking the Capsules

  • Machine locks the cap and body
  • Check a few random samples for:
    ✔ Proper weight
    ✔ Tight locking
    ✔ No powder leakage

Step 4: Capsule Cleaning

  • Wipe capsules with a clean cloth to remove powder on the surface

Step 5: Packaging

  • Use bottles or blister packs
  • Add silica gel pouch to prevent moisture
  • Label with batch number & manufacturing date

⭐ Important Tips (Practical)

  • Drying temperature above 60°C will turn powder brown → avoid.
  • Moringa absorbs moisture quickly → pack immediately after grinding.
  • For commercial sale, company must follow FSSAI guidelines and GMP.
  • Keep powder away from air exposure to prevent oxidation.
